The base for your holiday

Frigiliana, voted as the ‘prettiest village in Andalucía’ by the Spanish tourism authority, is set against the backdrop of the mountains of the Sierras de Tejeda. The village is a maze of narrow cobbled streets lined with white-washed houses decked with brightly coloured Mediterranean flowers. The old historic centre is Moorish in appearance and has several small cafes, bars and restaurants often with stunning panoramic views over the surrounding countryside.

About the Area

The base for your holiday in Spain

The region is unspoilt and rich in natural beauty and history. Frigiliana is just a few kilometres away from the Mediterranean sea with several hidden coves and unspoilt beaches nearby. We are spoilt for choice for locations to visit with the spectacular botanical gardens and impressive palatial fortification of the Alcazabar in Malaga a short distance by road.

Granada and the magnificent Alhambra palace and gardens are close by and are easily accessible for a day or half day’s trip.

Due to its location Frigiliana has a very special micro climate with an annual average temperature of 18 C. This means winters are mild and summers are warm. With a very low rainfall this is a unique paradise all year round. Winter sunshine is guaranteed and warm summers make the perfect location for a holiday.

Many inspiring places: unspoilt beaches, whitewashed houses, cobbled streets.

Weather

Climate in Frigiliana

Due to its location, protected by the Sierra de Almijara mountains, Frigiliana has its own micro-climate which includes approximately 320 days of sunshine per year. Only 7 kms from the Mediterranean sea, it has a temperate, sun-tropical climate which means that winter temperatures rarely drop below 18 ºC and the summers are warm. As a result it is idyllic at all times of year for outdoor activities such as painting.
Frigiliana also benefits from low rainfall which together with the long hours of sunshine makes this a unique place to join a painting holiday.

The Sierra de Almijara mountains rise to over 1800 metres to the north of Frigiliana, and it acts as a barrier against the cooler northerly winds that occasionally affect much of the rest of Spain during the winter months. A recent survey suggests that this part of Spain experiences the best all-year-round weather in Europe.
We hope the information below on average temperatures and rainfall will help you decide when you would like to visit the area.
